When you take the trip on the Napa Valley Wine Train get there early so that you can experience the waiting area before going on your trip. My husband planned our trip to Napa and Sonoma perfectly before we went on for a business trip to San Francisco. I highly recommend the Wine Train as something not to miss if you are traveling to Napa. While you wait inside you will be able to sample different wines and take some pictures and get souvenirs. There is a photographer taking your picture before you board the train and we did end up purchasing a picture when we returned. Today this train is going to Grgich Hills Winery.
We were there for their lunch and tour of the Grgich winery. On the train we traveled back to an elegant age. These expertly refurbished 1915-1917 Pullman Cars create a great atmosphere and we were totally relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. We enjoyed the 1917 Pullman dining car experience. The train was decorated beautifully. Our table was beautifully set and we shared it with another couple. The Wine Train would be a great place to have a special event or go to one of their Murder Mysteries or Dinner Theater. It would make a romantic date.
The meals are prepared by an executive chef in a specially fabricated kitchen car located immediately adjacent to each dining area. There were several menu choices and the food is prepared using environmentally responsible ingredients, humanely raised, hormone free meats and fresh, line-caught fish. One welcome taste of wine included.

Swordfish with a champagne sauce
Beautiful scenery of the Napa Valley Vineyards as the training is moving past. Making me want to come back and travel to many of the wineries that we past. Then, after lunch, we stopped at the Grgich Hills Estate for a tour and wine tasting. We were lucky that day because we had a special presentation by the President himself, Miljenko “Mike” Grgich who is a legend in the Napa Valley. And we had some great wine too! What a lovely day!
After our wine tour at Grgich Hills Estate, we reboarded the train for another relaxing trip back to Napa. On the return trip we had dessert and some more wine. Don't forget to watch this video of the Napa Valley Wine Train experience.
